Castlegar COVID issues force cancellation of Saturday’s Leafs game

Seven KIJHL games postponed, Tuesday’s Leafs game in Castlegar still a go
Nelson — Saturday night’s Nelson Leafs home game versus the Castlegar Rebels is amongst seven Kootenay International Junior Hockey league contests postponed due to COVID issues.
The Rebels are having some troubles with the latest uptick in COVID cases. So too are the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
The two teams were supposed to play Friday. That game is postponed. So is Sunday’s game between the ‘Hawks and Golden. The Fernie Ghostriders have had two games cancelled. So have the Kelowna Chiefs.
Leafs assistant coach Adam Dibella says the team certainly respects that league’s decision and notes that Saturday night’s game is the only Leafs tilt that’s been nixed by the bug.
The Leafs away game in Castlegar next Tuesday is still going ahead.
Nelson is coming off two back-to-back games against Beaver Valley. The Leafs, first in the Neil Murdoch division, won one and lost one to the Nitehawks, who are in second.
DiBella felt the Leafs carried the play in a hard-fought loss to Beaver Valley on New Years eve.
“We probably missed five open nets,” says DiBella.
Leafs goalie Brandon Marshall was named Goalie Of The Month for December.
DiBella says the young net minder been Nelson’s most consistent player of the season thus far.
