The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League completed its third week of regular season action for the 2024-25 season. This mark’s the season debut of the KIJHL Power Rankings that highlights the top-five teams based on winning percentage, with various tie-breakers to help decide positioning.
The Princeton Posse picked up a pair of wins, 3-1 against the Kimberley Dynamiters and 7-1 over the 100 Mile House Wranglers. Bryton Morrow led the team with two goals and four assists, while Blake Sittler saved 43 of 45 shots for a .956 save rate and a 1.00 goals against average.
The Nelson Leafs played one game on the weekend, defeating the Columbia Valley Rockies 4-3. Caden Still’s third goal of the season was the winner, while goalie Devin Degenstein made 32 saves.
The Revelstoke Grizzlies picked up a split on their two games. They opened with a 2-1 loss to the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in front of the largest KIJHL crowd of the season with 910 spectators. They rebounded to earn a 7-2 road win against Kamloops.
The Beaver Valley Nitehawks split their two weekend games, opening with a 6-1 win over the Grand Forks Border Bruins, then a 3-2 overtime loss to the Fernie Ghostriders. The Nitehawks lead the league with five shorthanded goals in six games. Scoring those goals are Marcus Cyr, Connor Drake, Hunter Hansen, Brady Magarrell and Connor Martel.
The Grand Forks Border Bruins split their games against Neil Murdoch division rivals, starting with a 6-1 loss to the Nitehawks, then an 8-3 win over the Spokane Braves. Levi Astill led with four goals in two games, including a hat-trick performance against the Braves.

Prior to joining Nelson, Mangone spent two seasons with the Creston Valley Thundercats as Assistant Coach and General Manager, further developing his experience in both bench leadership and hockey operations.
Mangone has a proven track record of advancing players to the next level, helping multiple athletes move on to Junior A programs and collegiate hockey opportunities.
His coaching philosophy centers on player development, advancement, accountability, and continual personal growth — both for his athletes and himself as a coach.
“ I am honored to stay on as the GM/Head Coach with the Nelson Leafs and excited for the opportunity to work with such talented athletes and committed staff”, said Coach Gianni.
“This program has a strong tradition, and I look forward to building a culture of discipline, teamwork, and success both on and off the ice.”
