Nelson — The Nelson Leafs have a couple of big games this weekend, here in town.
The Leafs, second in the Neil Murdoch division behind the Beaver Valley Nitehawks, are coming off two tough losses in Fruitvale last weekend.
“All year, we’ve talked about getting better every day,” says Leafs Assistant Coach Adam DiBella. “We played well enough to win last weekend. We couldn’t beat the goalie the first night, and couldn’t overcome other aspects of the game Saturday.”
“But I liked our competitiveness both nights.”
The Dynamiters come to town chasing their Eddie Mountain division-leading rivals, the Columbia Valley Rockies, for first place. The Leafs lost to Kimberley 2-1 the last time the two teams met.
Saturday, the Castlegar Rebels come to town.
“We have to start looking after our own division,” says DiBella. “Saturday’s game is a big one regarding the standings.”
On the player front — goalie Dylan Marshall is back in action after being out for a few weeks with an injury. No word yet on who’ll get the starts this weekend — he or fellow net-minder Tenzin Mint.
It’ll be a big Friday night for Nelson’s Tyson Hutt. The 15-year-old makes his AP debut for The Leafs.
On the volunteer front — with crowds returning to the Nelson and District Community Complex in bigger numbers for games, the Leafs organization is looking for help during the games.
