The Nelson Leafs are proud to announce our 2022/2023 Hockey Operations staff

The Nelson Leafs are pleased to announce that alumni Tyson Soobotin will be joining the team’s
coaching staff as an Associate Coach. Soobotin, a native of Grand Forks, BC, accumulated 125
KIJHL games over a 5 year span. In the 2018/2019 season Soobotin suited up for 34 games in
Leaf colours.

“I’m thrilled to be back in Nelson,” Says Tyson Soobotin, “The Leafs organization is very highly
regarded, and I look forward to using my playing experiences to contribute in the Leaf
organizations’ pursuit of greatness.”

Brandon Costa will also be with the team for the upcoming season as an Assistant Coach. Costa,
a former Leaf Captain, joined the coaching staff prior to last season in what was his first
experience behind the bench. Costa is currently studying and apprenticing to become an
Electrical Motor System Technician and will rejoin the team mid-way through October at the
conclusion of his schooling.

“During his time in our league as a player, Brandon showed that he has high end skill and was a
dominant player,” Says Head Coach Adam DiBella, “That translated smoothly into a coaching
capacity. Brandon was a big part of the offensive success we had as a team last season.”

Lance Morey will return for his 7 th season as the teams General Manager. Morey assumed the
position prior to the 2017/2018 season. Morey has been involved in hockey since the late 80s
accumulating 2 Telus Cup National Championships and an RBC Nation Championship with the
West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL in 2016.

“With the new season on the horizon, to say that we are excited would be an understatement.
Adding Adam as the New Head Coach was a huge plus, and now having two former Leafs as his
assistant’s has just added to our strength behind the bench. Tyson was a hard working tough to
play against defenseman who now brings his work ethic and enthusiasm to his new role with
the Leafs. Brandon is entering his second season as an Assistant Coach after playing for the
Leafs and stints in 2 different Junior A leagues. Costa brings a wealth of knowledge to the bench
and has ability to communicate his thoughts so all concerned know exactly what he means,”
Says General Manager Lance Morey, “It also goes without saying that having our Trainer Garth
Georgetti back for another year adds another solid piece to the Leafs 22/23 puzzle. Garth is well
respected by both the players and Staff and brings his years of knowledge to the Leafs for
another year.”
