Young Guns: Karl Soneff

Karl Soneff of the Nelson Leafs is this week’s Young Guns, presented by the Next Shift Network, as he saved 96 of 100 shots in two games against the Grand Forks Border Bruins.

He had a 39-save shutout performance and posted a .960 save percentage with a 1.79 goals against average over the two games. Soneff said he made the saves needed to give his team a chance to win.

“I was just trying to play a solid game,” said Soneff. “Make those simple saves first and put myself in a position to make the rebound saves. I feel like I did that effectively.”

Soneff said it was awesome to earn his first playoff shutout.

“A shutout is always attributed as much to the team as it is to the goalie,” he said. “We had some key blocks late in the game. It was just a good feeling that I could do something to help contribute to the team’s success.”

In four Teck Cup playoff games, Soneff has a win with a 2.75 GAA and a .930 SP.
